The Afghan Hound , a breed of dog that developed as a hunter in the hill country of Afghanistan. It was once believed that it originated several thousand years ago in Egypt, but there is no evidence for this theory. It was brought to Europe in the late 19th century by British soldiers returning from the Indo-Afghan border wars.

Dog facts and information

Afghan hounds hunt by sight, and in their native Afghanistan, they were used to hunt leopards and deer. The animal adapts to the harsh country through the structure of its high and wide thigh bones. The Afghan Hound measures 25 to 27 inches (63.5 to 68.5 cm) in height and weighs 50 to 60 pounds (23 to 27 kg). It has floppy ears, long knots, and a long, silky coat of various colors but is usually solid. The coat is particularly heavy on the front and rear quarters; The Afghan carries its slender tail in an upright curve. The Afghan appearance has been described as "aristocratic, with a far-reaching expression".
